Remit of the Role  

My main responsibilities were to maintain the A/R and A/P and General Ledgers and to take everything to trial balance every month for the company secretary. I was the last generation to formally use double entry book-keeping in commercial practice and the first to use computerised accounting systems.

  • Maintained the sales day book and A/R ledger

  • Maintained the purchase day book and A/P  ledger

  • Prepared monthly trial balance

  • Took the monthly stock take of WIP and physical goods

  • Maintained the job costing system

  • Prepared and issued the payroll to all staff

  • Prepared the quarterly VAT returns

Key Achievements
 
  • Assisted in establishing the companies first computerised accounting system (Pegasus)

  • Good stock keeping allowed the company to reduce stock levels

  • Accurate monitoring of WIP allowed the company to improve its invoicing timing and subsequent cash management and working capital.

  • Assisted in the introduction of Kalamazoo accounting system prior to the introduction of the computer system.

 
Reason For Leaving
 
Being a very small company there was not the budget for training or the opportunity to really develop from a career perspective.
